Here are our answers to frequently asked questions about the #GhanaGCC2017!

What is the Global Citizenship Conference (GCC)?

The GCC is an annual conference organized by the Melton Foundation and one of our partner universities. The conference convenes about 100 Melton Fellows, faculty from participating universities, and leading Global Citizenship advocates, practitioners, and experts from across the globe to for three primary purposes: To build a community of global citizens, to encourage learning and to expand the outreach of global citizenship.

What is the theme of the GCC 2017?

The Ghana GCC 2017 addresses the need of the hour – a call for a paradigm shift! Focusing on a world that is influx and preparing for a new kind of leadership that embraces diversity and nourishes collaborations beyond boundaries of religion, race or geography, to forge equitable, sustainable solutions.

What is the format of the sessions and workshops at the GCC?

The Global Citizenship provides a platform for change-makers to connect, seek inspiration and design different solutions together. We like to steer clear of the typical classroom setting and encourage inclusive and interactive learning hands-on.

Who can participate in the GCC?

The GCC is a must for every global citizen and global-citizen-to-be. In addition to approximately 60 Fellows of the Melton Foundation, members from the (local) NGO, political, educational, and business communities and grassroots initiatives contribute with their experience and are learners at the same time. If you want to contribute to the change and impact, promote global collaboration to help solve pressing issues, and help build a community of global citizens, the GCC is the right fit for you.

Does the Melton Foundation offer any funding or support to attend the conference?

As part of our Global Citizenship Fellowship, we support approx. 60 Melton Fellows from across the world to participate in the Conference. Furthermore, we invite members from the (local) NGO, political, educational, and business communities or grassroots initiatives to participate in the conference on a self-funded basis. Costs to be covered by participants are as follows.

  • Registration Fee: US$ 100- (does not apply to partner organizations)
  • Meals (full board): US$ 45- per person & day (applies to all GCC participants)
  • Lodging (shared): US$ 40- per person & night (optional; room occupancy: 2 people)

What prior preparation should I do before I attend the conference?

In addition to registering and organizing your travel to the conference, the most important prerequisites to participate in the GCC are an eagerness to learn and connect with global citizens, and an open mind. Can I participate in the Pre-GCC Activities?

Yes. The online component of this year’s Pre-GCC-Activities primarily focus on two aspects: building critical awareness about the thematic and socio-cultural context of the conference and flexing our Global Citizenship muscles in order to stimulate fresh ideas and perspectives ahead of time. What do I need to get into the country?

All non-Ghanaian passport holders entering Ghana need a valid (tourist) visa and are requested to have a valid certificate of immunization against yellow fever. Travelers will be required to present it at the port of entry in Ghana. Please take a look at this Logistics Info Sheet and check the information provided by Ghana Immigration Services or contact the Ghanaian Consulate in your country of residence for details.

In case there is no Ghanaian Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence, please get in touch – we can help facilitate the visa application process and coordinate a visa-upon-arrival.

What should I expect from this GCC?

The GCC is designed to impart learning, provide perspective and implore participants to take action. You can expect to be surprised, to be overwhelmed with emotion, and to connect with some of the best in the area of global citizenship. You will also make a commitment to perform your Act of Global Citizenship after the GCC, to follow through and implement your takeaways from the GCC. Most important of all, expect to find answers to how we can address and solve some of the most pressing issues of our time.

Would I become a Melton Fellow by attending the GCC?

No, Applications to join the Melton Foundation Fellowship open once a year for students at our partner universities. However, by participating in the GCC, you will become part of our worldwide Global Citizenship Community.
