The 2024 Global Solvers Awards Ceremony, held on October 26, marked a pivotal moment in the journey of the Global Solvers program. After months of dedication, collaboration, and innovation, the program’s participants gathered to showcase their groundbreaking projects aimed at addressing some of the world’s most pressing social challenges. From education and empowerment to environmental sustainability, the diverse projects presented reflected the immense talent and commitment of the fellows involved.
The Global Solvers Accelerator engages emerging change agents from diverse world regions around developing competencies for global citizenship, sustainable development, and collective leadership.
Over the course of eight months, participants engage in purposefully designed module topics, blended learning, project assignments, peer exchange, and subject matter advisory in order to build their capacity and amplify the transformative potential of their social impact projects. Thus, the Global Solvers Accelerator results in cumulative impact at three levels:
- the individual level, by building participants’ capacity for leadership and social impact.
- the community level, by unleashing the transformative potential of participants’ social impact projects.
- the systemic level, by intersecting different local approaches and contextual know-how, thus creating ripple effects of societal transformation and SDG attainment.
As part of the event, participants voted on the most impactful projects in three key award categories: Seed Funding, Professional Coaching, and Supported Crowdfunding. These categories reflect the essential support that many social initiatives need to scale and make a lasting difference. Using a dot voting method on a Miro board, participants reviewed each project based on five core assessment criteria: Delivery, Users/Community, Collaboration, Context, and Transformation.
Innovative Projects Tackling Global Challenges
The event featured a series of thought-provoking project presentations that highlighted how Melton Fellows are stepping up to create lasting, positive change. Each presentation addressed a unique social issue, offering innovative solutions that align with the program’s core values of community empowerment, sustainability, and transformation. Here are a few standout projects from the session:
- Unifly Collective – Saumya Aggarwal’s project aims to enhance the quality of education in Indian schools by equipping teachers with essential tools and support for creating more engaging and effective learning environments, fostering a brighter future for students.
- Mokami – Presented by Naqsh, Mokami empowers local artisans in Pakistan by connecting them to global markets, ensuring fair wages, and preserving traditional crafts, thereby creating economic resilience within artisan communities.
- Empowering Women through Incense Production – Waala’s initiative in Ethiopia supports women’s economic empowerment through the production and sale of incense, providing a sustainable income source and fostering community development.
- Round Down for Charity – Max’s innovative project in the United States rounds up everyday purchases to the nearest dollar, with the extra change going to charitable causes, making it easy for individuals to contribute to social change with every purchase.
- Project Kodu – Pradeep’s project in India seeks to bring education to tribal communities, breaking down barriers and fostering an inclusive learning environment that respects and uplifts indigenous culture.
- Environmental Project in Chile – Venancio Coñuepan’s initiative focuses on environmental preservation in Chile, leveraging local resources and community involvement to promote sustainable practices and foster a greener future.
- Sunsafe Solutions – Brittany’s project in Cameroon delivers off-grid solar home systems to communities lacking reliable power access, providing clean energy solutions that improve health, education, and economic opportunities.
- The Future Builders Program – Chen Jun Leo’s project in Malaysia empowers B40 (Bottom 40%) youths by providing them with skills, mentorship, and resources to build brighter futures, addressing socioeconomic disparities through personal development.
- Hype Sri Lanka – Chiranthi’s initiative promotes youth empowerment in governance, encouraging young people to engage in policy-making and leadership, strengthening democratic participation in Sri Lanka.
- Period Poverty Project – Olajumoke’s project in Nigeria addresses period poverty by providing essential resources and education on menstrual health, empowering women and girls to lead healthier, more dignified lives.
- GALE Program – Gugulethu’s initiative in South Africa focuses on girls’ education, providing resources, mentorship, and community support to ensure young women have the opportunities they need to thrive.
- Handle with Care – Shaurya’s music therapy project in India provides emotional and mental health support through music, helping individuals process trauma, manage stress, and foster personal well-being.
- Athena League Support Center – Nathalia’s project in Colombia establishes a support center for survivors of gender-based violence, offering resources and counseling services to aid recovery and build a supportive community.
- Men of Honor Project – Peter’s initiative in Zambia educates boys on gender issues, promoting healthy masculinity and encouraging respect and equality to reduce gender-based violence and foster a more inclusive society.
- El Mundo Que Creamos – Ayelen’s project supports young creative entrepreneurs by providing a school that nurtures innovation and creativity, helping youth in her community build sustainable businesses and careers.
- Minder Community Outreach Program – Romano’s initiative in Suriname connects underprivileged communities with essential services and resources, fostering resilience and empowerment through outreach and support.
Voting and Recognition: A Collaborative Effort
The voting process was an essential component of the event. After hearing from each presenter, participants used the dot voting method to select projects that they believed embodied the most promise for transformation. The five key rubrics—Delivery, Users/Community, Collaboration, Context, and Transformation—provided a structured way to assess each project’s potential impact.

Looking Ahead: Global Solvers Accelerator 2025
As the ceremony wrapped up, participants were reminded of the exciting opportunity to apply for the Global Solvers Accelerator 2025. This accelerator program provides selected initiatives with the resources, mentorship, and funding they need to bring their solutions to life on a larger scale. Applications are open until December 15, 2024, and Melton Fellows are encouraged to spread the word within their networks to support the next generation of innovators.
