The NOLA Tech Tap: Community Ideathon 2022 brings together young people in New Orleans to develop and pitch a project idea to further sustainable livelihood in their community with the aid of technology.
Equality is a fundamental human right for all to enjoy. It has been given special importance in the UN Human Rights Charter and is present in the Sustainable Development goals with regards to access to education, clean water, health and socio-economic growth. The term ‘equality’ blankets a lot of the basic principles needed in global communities.
On 2nd July 2022, the Melton Foundation hosted a Virtual Townhall to connect around stories, share laughs, increase awareness, and celebrate LGTBQI+ pride together!
Starting 19th April 2022, a cohort of Melton Fellows embarked on a journey to Dillard University, New Orleans. Fellows from Chile, Ghana, India, Germany, and the USA congregated to showcase social impact projects, participate in events centered around global citizenship, engage in discussions, and build camaraderie through activities like campus tours!
The Melton Foundation found itself involved in two events lately: the SIETAR Europa Congress 2022 in Malta and the Jena Hub Visit 2022! While Melton Foundation ambassadors discussed intercultural interactions and collaboration at the Congress, the Executive Office team members paid a visit to Melton Fellows in Jena, Germany to facilitate an exchange of ideas.
The Festival Global de Storytelling 2022 was a celebration of the power of storytelling, as a way to spark change and create peace and empathy through comon experiences and stories. Co-organized by Lighthouse Storytelling -a new-media organization brought up by Melton Fellows around the world-, this event was the first of its kind in Spanish, opening new venues for storytellers to connect, beyond barriers of language!
The Festival consisted in 4 main events: A Preliminar Talk, an Opening Pannel, a Hands-on Workshop, and a Showcase for Arts and Storytelling; each one hosting many diverse storytellers from many places across Latin America and Europe. In this story, join us as we hear from Melton Fellow Claris Nadini about Badili Zone - An initiative based in Mukuru Kwa Reuben Slum, Nairobi Kenya. Claris and other partners are fundraising to acquire a shipping container that will be converted to a computer hub to help in computer literacy and to connect the students to the rest of the world! This activity directly helps students in the slums of Mukuru Kwa Reuben have access to quality education and other opportunities uninterrupted.
The years 2017-21 were rife with challenges, new opportunities, and unforeseen adversity with a global pandemic! When the Covid-19 pandemic struck at the turn of a new decade, the Melton Foundation, like many other organizations, had to evolve overnight. By envisioning a virtual future for Global Citizenship, it shifted its activities to the online world and connected with individuals remotely in massive numbers. Before the pandemic, it continued its conferences with renewed thrust.
The year 2016 marked 25 years of the Melton Foundation's existence and was a milestone in its evolution as a community of global citizens. The years 2012-16 witnessed Global Citizenship Conferences, workshops, TEDx seminars and much more. With a new generation of enthusiastic individuals who brought with them their innovations in the field of social change, the Melton Foundation continued its march of propagating global citizenship across boundaries.
