The Melton Foundation found itself involved in two events lately: the SIETAR Europa Congress 2022 in Malta and the Jena Hub Visit 2022! While Melton Foundation ambassadors discussed intercultural interactions and collaboration at the Congress, the Executive Office team members paid a visit to Melton Fellows in Jena, Germany to facilitate an exchange of ideas.
The Festival Global de Storytelling 2022 was a celebration of the power of storytelling, as a way to spark change and create peace and empathy through comon experiences and stories. Co-organized by Lighthouse Storytelling -a new-media organization brought up by Melton Fellows around the world-, this event was the first of its kind in Spanish, opening new venues for storytellers to connect, beyond barriers of language!
The Festival consisted in 4 main events: A Preliminar Talk, an Opening Pannel, a Hands-on Workshop, and a Showcase for Arts and Storytelling; each one hosting many diverse storytellers from many places across Latin America and Europe. A leading proponent of global citizenship practice worldwide, the Melton Foundation celebrated 30 years of shaping young minds through experiential learning, skill development, and intercultural exposure in 2021! We have built a 500+ network of Fellows who carry out impact projects around the world, and our association with the 17 UN SDGs further acts as an impetus for our Fellows and partners to join hands and carve a better future together through actionable, and sustainable programs. With the inception of social media, wider avenues for networking, and reaching out to newer audiences, the Melton Foundation started the process of scripting its journey into the second decade of the millennium. Incorporating major innovations along the way and continuing to uphold initiatives that furthered its vision, the years 2007-2011 were defined by enthusiasm and action!
As the Melton Foundation transitioned into the first decade of the millennium, it initiated Senior Fellow Orientations and International Travel Groups. Notably, it opened up to organizations and external speakers and guests, setting in motion the formation of partnerships that last up to this day!
As the Melton Foundation entered a new era, it continued to grow, incorporating into its fold Social Service Projects, New Melton Fellow Orientations, and our first Alumni Meet while strengthening the practice of Symposiums, cultural presentations, and cross-boundary collaborations!
Before the over 500 fellows around the world, the dozen international events, and the impactful collaborations and projects connecting across continents, the Melton Foundation started little. With only eight students -four in Germany, four in the United States-, the Foundation took the first steps towards what would turn into decades of impactful collaboration and cross-cultural learning programs that would benefit thousands of students around the globe.
The Global Storytelling Festival 2021 was a celebration of the power of storytelling as a vehicle for creating sustainable impact. Through a storytelling workshop, a mini-story contest, and a showcase, we brought together the brightest storytellers from around the world, bridging inherent cultural gaps!
As inheritors of this planet, young people are in the pilot's seat to spearhead the sustainable development agenda and foster a new system of development grounded in knowledge sharing, cooperation, and inclusion. It is with fervent hope for a more equitable tomorrow that we raise the platform for young changemakers to collaborate on forging solutions to complex issues.
